Artwork by Lance Shinkle – Showing through April

Artwork by Lance Shinkle will be displayed at The Gallery at FCTV from March 8 through April 24. A public reception will be held in April. Watch for announcements.
Lance Shinkle is a multidisciplinary artist whose work has become part of the visual fabric of Falmouth and Cape Cod. A longtime sign maker, sculptor, painter, and woodcarver, he is known locally for iconic storefront signs, including Falmouth Fish Market, Ben & Bill’s Chocolate Emporium, Betsy’s Diner, and Liam Maguire’s Irish Pub, as well as stone carvings and murals that animate public spaces with character and craftsmanship.
Working across wood, stone, and oil paint, Lance blends movement, storytelling, and meticulous handwork. His sculptural figures and carved forms reveal a deep sensitivity to gesture and rhythm, while his plein air paintings capture the shifting light and atmosphere of the Cape with bold color and dramatic contrast.
Most recently, Lance can be seen on FCTV’s Public Channel 6 in his new series, Painting the Cape, hosted by Lance and produced by Bruce Soule. Each program covers different aspects of oil painting, from mixing colors and blending to shading, creating scenes, understanding perspective, filling in details, and discussing the tools involved.
His most ambitious work, the hand-carved Carousel of Light, is a kinetic celebration of artistry and imagination—an intricate collection of horses and nautical figures brought to life through carving, paint, and choreographed motion. Self-taught and continually evolving, Lance remains inspired by the light, beauty, and community of Cape Cod, where he continues to live and work as an oil painter.
